Atlas JACQUES, 71, died Tuesday (June 27) at his home in Curtisville. He was born April 11, 1918, in Barton City and was a lifelong area resident with exception of time spent in the Navy during World War II. On Aug 9, 1939, he married his wife, Dora, who preceded him in death Feb. 14, 1977. Survivors include three brothers, Lewis JACQUES of Curran, Walter ROTH of Oscoda and Warren ROTH of Germany; and two sisters, Olive BUGG of Mio and Flora HEILIG of Curtisville. Friends may call from 4 to 9 p.m. Friday at Gillies Funeral Home, Lincoln, where the funeral is set for 1 p.m. Saturday. Interment: Maple Ridge Cemetery, Barton City.

Deceased was 42 years of age and is survived by three brothers, a wife and five children. The funeral was held from the Baptist church Friday afternoon. ***** George JACQUES of Saginaw has been here for the past week during the illness of his brother. ***** Mr. and Mrs. Thos. LaFORGE of Detroit arrived Saturday for a visit with relatives here. (Marcia Shears' Notes: Mrs. Thomas LaFORGE was the aunt of David JACQUES. Mrs. JACQUES is survived by her husband Norman; two daughters, Debbie ZILISCH (Doug) of Linden, Mich., and Dawn MARTINDALE of Burton, Mich; one son, Bob ALTMAN of Mackinaw City, Ill.; three grandsons, Brad MARTINDALE, Nathan and Danny ZILISCH; two sisters, Lorraine THIEM of Madison Heights, Mich. and Bette McCAULEY of Grand Blanc, Mich.; three brothers, Bob BUGG of Bay City, Mich., Clayton BUGG of McKinley, Mich. and David BUGG of Comins, Mich. and her mother, Wanda BUGG of Curran. Funeral services were held Saturday, March 30, 1996, at Gillies Funeral Home in Lincoln.

JACQUES, 79, of Curran, who died Dec. 10 at Tolfree Memorial Hospital in West Branch. Mr. JACQUES was born Nov. 6, 1910 in Curran has lived there all of this life. He was a retired brick layer and was a member of the Curran Baptist Church. Surviving is his wife, Ida; a son, Norman JACQUES of Fenton; two sisters, Olive BUGG of Mio and Flora HEILIG of Curtisville; two brothers, Waldo ROTH of Oscoda and Warren ROTH; two grand-children and three great-grandchildren. Pastor David DEE officiated at the services held at Curran Baptist Church and interment was in Curran Cemetery.  
 

 
Newspaper Unknown Dixie (ARNDT) JEAN Dixie (ARNDT) JEAN, 49, died Sunday, Sept. 22, 1996, at her residence in West Branch, Mich., following a brief battle with cancer. She was born in Barton City on November 2, 1946, the daughter of Orville and Helen BALDWIN. She resided most of her lifetime in Bay City, Mich. and West Branch, Mich. She married Buck JEAN on Nov. 30, 1991. Mrs. Jean was a member of the Crapo Golf Course Golf League in West Branch, Mich. She is survived by her husband; one daughter, Lisa ARNDT of West Branch, Mich.; one son, William (Greta) ARNDT of Hastings, Mich.; two step-daughters, Debby JEAN (Joe DeLEOCH) of Bloomfield Hills, Mich., and Tami JEAN of Huntington Beach, Va.; one step-son, Mark JEAN (Joey FRANKS) of Los Angeles, Calif; two grandchildren, George ARNDT and Carly DeLOUCH; three brothers, Roger (Bernice) BALDWIN of Glennie, Norman K. (Barbara) BALDWIN of LaSalle, Mich., Wayne (Judy) BALDWIN of Goodrich, Mich.; one sister, Kathy (Kenneth) ROGERS of Chesapeake, Va.; and several nieces, nephews and great nieces and nephews. The funeral was held Thursday afternoon at Stapish West. The Rev. Carter PRESTON presided. Internment was in St. Patrick Cemetery. Memorials can be given to the American Cancer Society. Funeral arrangements were handled by Stapish West, 805 E. South Union, Bay City, Mich.  
 

 
Newspaper Unknown Front end loader overturns, killing Lachine man at quarry A Lachine man died Monday afternoon in a heavy equipment accident at a quarry off Long Lake Avenue operated by Glawe Inc., according to company and official sources. A brief statement issued this morning by the company identified him as James KARR. It said Karr was fatally injured at 1:50 p.m. County Medical Examiner Dr. James GREENWOOD said KARR died instantly when his head was crushed. He said KARR was backing a front end loader down an incline and the machine tipped to the left when the right wheels ran over some rocks. KARR reportedly got partially out of the cab when he was pinned under the machine. Sources at the Alpena County Sheriff's Department said deputies were called to the quarry to attempt to extract Karr from underneath the machine with the jaws of life. James Kenneth KARR, 30, of 11026 M-32, was born in Alpena June 24, 1956, and was a lifelong resident of the Lachine area. He and Patricia MARCINIAK were married Oct. 12, 1985, at Long Rapids. Mr. KARR was a self-employed in the forest products industry for the past eight years. He was temporarily employed as a heavy equipment operator with Glawe Inc. for the past three weeks. Surviving are his wife; a daughter, Amanda at home; his mother, Joyce KARR of Long Rapids; two brothers, Thomas of Rogers City and John of Lachine; and two sisters, Julie (Mrs. Darrell) RENAUD of Novi and Janice FRANCISCO of Long Rapids. Friends may call at Bannan Funeral Home after 7 p.m. Wednesday. At noon on Friday, his body will be taken to First Assembly of God Church from 1 p.m. until funeral service at 2 that afternoon. The Rev. Mario CUPPETTELLI will officiate. Interment: Long Rapids Cemetery Memorials: March of Dimes.  
 

 
Newspaper Unknown Jan 1985 KENNETH J. KARR Kenneth J. KARR, 65, of 14020 Long Rapids Road, died suddenly at home Monday afternoon (Jan. 14) after suffering a heart attack. Born May 26, 1919, in Detroit, Mr. KARR moved to Long Rapids in 1940. He married the former Joyce WIEDBRAUK June 3, 1950, in Curran. He engaged in farming and was employed for 29 years with the Besser Co., retiring in 1981. Mr. KARR was a U.S. Army veteran of WW II and a member of the Long Rapids First Congregational Church. Surviving are his wife, Joyce; two daughters, Julia KARR of Big Rapids and Janice FRANCISCO of Long Rapids; three sons, James and Thomas at home and John of Long Rapids; and four grand children. Friends may call at the Wachterhauser Funeral Home after 7 this evening. At noon on Thursday, his body will be take to the Long Rapids First Congregational Church where funeral services will be at 2 p.m., with the Rev. George R. BURROWS officiating. Interment: Long Rapids Cemetery. Memorials; Long Rapids First Congregational Church Memorial Fund.
