Alcona County ReviewHarrisville, Michigan27 January 1921 CIVIL WAR VETERAN BURIED WITH HONORS Given Military Funeral by Members of the American Legion Funeral services were held at the home Sunday afternoon for the late Joseph Sovey. The members of the Harrisville Lodge of the Odd Fellows, of which the deceased was a member, participated along with a squad of ex-service men from Armstrong Post 56, American Legion. Rev. Robert Bryce was officiating clergyman. The Legion (unreadable) carried rifles and marched beside the hearse on the way to the cemetery. A large number of people attended the funeral, coming from far and near to pay their last respects to this old veteran whose death removed one more from the rapidly diminishing number of Civil War Veterans remaining in this country. Joseph Sovey was born January 15, (unreadable)at Kempville, Ontario, and came to Michigan in his youth. On March (unreadable), 1863 he enlisted at Detroit in Co. (unreadable) Ninth Michigan Cal. and served till the end of the rebellion. He was in many of the important engagements of the War; including the siege of (unreadable)ville and Sherman's March to the Sea. He was honorably discharged on (unreadable) 20, 1865 at Lexington, N.C. On October 15, 1871, Mr. Sovey married Margaret Sears and they moved to Harrisville 42 years ago. Mrs. Sovey passed away in Nov. 1919. Surviving children are Mrs. Lin (unreadable) Freer of Curran, John of Portland, Oregon, Mrs. Vinette Stewart of (unreadable), Pa., Mrs. Mable Cole, Joseph (unreadable) at home. The interment took place in the (unreadable) cemetery, where the impressive (unreadable) service of the Odd Fellows was followed by the military salute for the dead, consisting of three rounds fired by the military guard.

Alcona County ReviewHarrisville, Michigan20 November 1919 Mrs. Jos. Sovey Dead Mrs. Joseph Sovey died Wednesday afternoon at her home north of Harrisville, following a long illness from cancer. For the past week her condition has been critical and her death was not unexpected. She is survived by her husband and six children. Funeral arrangements had not been made when the Review went to press. News of Mrs. Sovey's death was received too late to permit the preparation of a complete obituary notice for this paper; it will appear in the next issue of the Review. MARGARET SOVEY Funeral services were held Saturday morning at St. Anne's church for the late Mrs. Joseph Sovey, brief mention of whose death was made in last week's Review. Rev. Fr. Ryan officiated and interment was made in the family lot in the West cemetery. Margaret Sears was born March 11, 1845 in Branford, Ont., and died at her home in Harrisville on Wednesday, Nov. 19th. She was married to Joseph Sovey on October 15, 1871, and they lived in Harrisville for 40 years, coming here from Au Sable in 1879. Besides the husband there are six surviving children: John F. of Newberg, Oregon; Mrs. Wm. S. Freer of Curan, Mich.; Mrs. H.J. Cole of Wyandotte, Mich.; Mrs. H.A. Stewart of Corry, Pa.; Joseph W. and Omar at home.

Alcona County Review, Harrisville, MI 9 Jan 1919, Page 1 CURRAN Benj. WIEDBRAUK who was taken to Detroit a week ago Saturday for an operation for appendicitis, passed away Monday Dec. 30. The remains were brought here last Thursday and funeral services conducted by Rev. BROWN and Rev. McGRATH of Glennie were held Friday afternoon at 1:00 o'clock. Deceased was sixteen years of age and is survived by both parents, five brothers and three sisters. ***** Tom LaFORGE and S. S. WIEDBRAUK of Detroit were home to attend the funeral Friday. Ed LaFORGE of Hubbard Lake is a Curran visitor.

Newspaper Unknown1979WEIDBRAUK, Elesta M. Mrs. Elesta M. WIEDBRAUK, 82, of Curran, died Monday, January 1, 1979, at Alpena General Hospital, Alpena. Mrs. WIEDBRAUK was born November 18, 1896 at Niles, Michigan and came to Curran in 1910 from Niles. She was a member of the Curran Baptist Church for 67 years. Surviving are two daughters, Mrs. Cora DeJARLAIS of Curran and Mrs. Nellie PIERCE of Oxford; six grand-children; eight great-grand-children; and one brother, Henry YODER of Peru, Indiana. Funeral services were held at 1:00 p.m. Wednesday, January 3, 1979 at the Mio Baptist Church with Reverend Merlin SKUSE, Reverend Ed HOGAN and Reverend Leslie DILLON officiating. Burial was in the Curran Cemetery, Curran. Arrangements were made by the Larrison Funeral Home, Mio. (Marcia Shears' Notes: Her maiden name was Elesta Mae YODER.)

WEIDBRAUK, aged 71, a pioneer resident of Mitchell township passed away at her home Thursday Mar 19th. Her death followed a heart attack.Eliza Jane FULLERTON was born July 16, 1865, in Cayuga New York. She married William H. WEIDBRAUK on June 4, 1882. They came to Michigan 49 years ago and settled on a farm in Curran, where they had lived since that time. Twelve children were born to this union, seven of whom survive. They are: Lewis, William, Joseph and Walter of Curran, Mrs. Silas ROTH and Mrs Lewis McFADDEN of Curran, and Mrs Thos LeFORGE of Oscoda. Three sisters, Mrs. H.V. MEISTER of Battle Creek, Mrs Horatio FOX of Sterling. Thirty-three grand-children and four great grandchildren also survive. She was a loving mother and a kind neighbor and will be greatly missed by all who knew her.Funeral services were held from the Baptist church in Curran, Sunday afternoon. Rev. C.S. BROWN officiated with burial in Maplel grove cemetery in Curran.Six grandsons acted as pallbearers.

Burial will be in Curran Cemetery, Curran. The body is at Gillies Funeral Home, Lincoln. He was born Feb. 15, 1919 in Curran. He is survived by his widow, Anna; and two sisters.

WIEDBRAUK, of Curran, aged 65 years, died Saturday February 9, at Zephyrhills, Florida, where with Mrs. WIEDBRAUK he was spending the winter months.Lewis Andrew WIEDBRAUK was born on December 22, 1885 at Ottertail City, Minnesota, the son of the late William Henry and Eliza WIEDBRAUK. The family came to Curran in 1891 when Lewis was but six years of age. He had made his home there on a farm for 61 years. His marriage to Elesta YODER took place in Curran on November 13, 1916.Surviving him are his widow and three children, two daughters and one son; Mrs. Harry DeJARLAIS of Curran, Miss Nellie WIEDBRAUK at home, and Floyd WIEDBRAUK of Curran. A son, Ned, died in France in 1945 during World War II. Also surviving are two brothers, Joseph WIEDBRAUK of Zephyrhills, Florida, and Curran; Walter of Curran; and three sisters, Mrs. Henry BEATON of Harrisville, Mrs. Lewis McFADDEN of Lacota, Michigan, and Mrs. Thomas LaFORGE of Oscoda.The body was brought to his Curran home where a prayer service will be held at 1:30 p.m. this (Thursday) afternoon, and services will be held at 2:00 p.m. at the Curran Baptist church. Rev. Wm. BYLER will officiate and burial will be in Curran Cemetery. Palbearers will be Joseph SHAFER, Hugh NOLAN, Ward SMALL, Bert LaFORGE, Wm. NOTESINE and Herbert TRADER.

Alcona County ReviewHarrisville, MI5 Apr 1945Page 1Killed in Action in France March 15(Picture included) PFC NED O. WIEDBRAUK Pfc Ned O. WIEDBRAUK son of Mr. and Mrs. L. A. WIEDBRAUK of Curran was killed in action in France on March 15th, 1945 according to a telegram received by the parents from the War Department last Thursday. Pfc WIEDBRAUK entered the service on December 2, 1942 and was a member of Company C, 410th Inf, 103rd Division with the 7th army. Ned O. WIEDBRAUK was born in Curran 24 years ago and spend his entire life there until his induction into the army. Surviving are his parents; two sisters, Mrs. Cora DeJARLAIS and Nellie of Curran; one brother Floyd, who is a Staff Sargent somewhere in France.
