Munising Woodenware, located on East Munising Ave, opened around 1910 and closed in the late 1950's. In its peak years it employed between 200-300 men and women. A catalog listing more than 400 items were made from the almost inexhaustable supply of hardwoods in the Munising area. Some of the items were beautifully handpainted butter bowls, butter moulds, meat pounders, spoons and forks, rolling pins, and clothes pins. Items imprinted with the "Munising" brand were recognized for their quality and are now collector's items. |
