James W. CARPENTER was born 23 Jan 1854 in a log cabin in Sombra Township, Ontario. An only child of John CARPENTER and Harriet HENRY, James was raised in the area of Sarnia, Ontario where his parents were married 17 Jan 1853. Following the death of Harriet in 1855, John CARPENTER remarried to Elizabeth Ann HENRY in 1862. James died 19 Jan 1907 at his farm home in Ossineke Township, Alpena County, Michigan. The Diary of James W. CARPENTER was produced by Donald W. CARPENTER and covers the years 1880 to 1907. During the period of the diary, James lived in Sarnia, Ontario and Alpena County.
