Antrim County, in the northwest corner of Michigan's lower peninsula was formed March 8, 1843, from its parent county, Cheboygan. It was originally named Megesee County, but ws later renamed after County Antrim in Ireland.
Antrim County is bordered on the west by Lake Michigan's Grand Traverse Bay and is one of the state's most popular recreation areas. This region was once famous for its iron processing.
