Photo 23 - Samuel Robert Large - Farmhouse - Bellaire - early Antrim Co., MI

Here is a photo of the Samuel Robert Large farmhouse near Bellaire, Antrim Co, MI. Samuel Large was born November 26, 1840 at Ashtabula, Ashtabula Co, OH, son of William Ball Large and Lydia Benham. He married Betsey Annette Glazier March 15, 1860 at Ashtabula. Betsey was born December 23, 1841 at Sheffield, Lorain Co, OH. Samuel served in the Civil War in the 50th Ohio Infantry Volunteers and was a member of the Major Weber GAR Post No. 206, Bellaire, MI. Samuel and Betsey came to Bellaire in 1884 via Lapeer Co and Oakland Co, MI. They remained in Bellaire for the remainder of their lives. Samuel died June 24, 1913 and Betsey died November 9, 1924. Both are buried at Lakeview Cemetery in Bellaire. Samuel and Betsey are my 2nd great grandparents.

I don't know when the photo was taken, though best guess is around or before 1900. In the photo from left to right are: unknown, Emma Frances Large ( Samuel & Betsey's daughter & my great grandmother), Betsey Glazier Large, Samuel W. Large (son), Samuel R. Large.

Having never visited the area, I do not know if the farmhouse still exists and do not exactly where it was located.

Anyone with information about the Large family, please contact me Hal Prentice hal@wkar.org
