Castner, 79, of Harrison, passed away peacefully at his home on June 3, 1999. Ollie was born to Lewis W. and Elenora (Kaiser) Castner of St. Johns, Michigan on June 7, 1919. Ollie was a World War II veteran. Returing from the war, he worked for the City of St. Johns. He retired from Oldsmobile in Lansing (Main Plant) after 3l years of dedication. He was a supervisor of a "yard gang". Ollie was married to Bonita Schmidt on July 3l, 1971. Ollie was a member of the VFW Post 1075 of Harrison, American Legion Post 404 of Harrison, Clare County 40 ET 8, Voiture 767, Knights of Columbus Council 7571 of Harrison and the Loyal Order of the Moose Lodge 2235, also of Harrison. Ollie was very active in the Neighborhood watch. You could find Ollie and Alex (his canine friend) driving around helping to protect Piney Woods. Surviving Ollie is his beloved wife, Bonita of Harrison, four daughters, Janice Smith and husband Rodney of St. Johns, Linda Heckla and husband Randy of Harrison, Judy Malinowski and husband Felix of Grosse Pointe Woods, and Donna Jo Deters, and husband Jeff of Oak Park one son, Thomas Schmidt and wife Marcia of Hesperia. Ollie leaves 15 grandchildren, and five great grandchildren, Alex, his canine friend; sister-in-law, Emmogene Castner of St. Johns, plus several nieces and nephews. Ollie was preceded in death by his parents and one brother, Arthur J. Castner. The Funeral Mass was celebrated Monday, June 7, 1999 from St. Athanasius Catholic Church, Harrison, with Rev. Father Stephen Fillion officiating. Interment was in St. Athanasius Catholic Cemetery, Harrison. The Vigil for the Deceased was held Sunday evening at Stocking Funeral Home, Harrison, under the direction of Sister Roslyn Nowak. Memorial conributions may be considered to Mid Michigan Hospice and V.N.A. Funeral arrangements were entrusted with Stocking Funeral Home, Harrison.
