Obituary from the Clare Sentinel, November 5, 1952:

MRS CARRIE E. VAN CONANT DIES SATURDAY

     Mrs. Carrie E. Van Conant, a well know resident of 
this vicinity the past 70 years, passed away at the Clare 
General Hospital last Saturday following ten years of 
failing health.

     Carrie Eliza Leach was born the daughter of Ellen and 
Lyman Leach, December 22, 1872 at Eaton County, Michigan, 
and passed away at the Clare General Hospital on November 
1, 1952, of cancer at the age of 79 years, 10 months and 
nine days.  She was the last of a family of three brothers 
and two sisters.

     She moved to Clare County with her parents at the age 
of nine, where she grew to womanhood and on Novembr 22, 
1893 was married to Edward C. Van Conant.  They settled on 
a farm in Clare County and endured all the hardships of 
pioneer days.

     Three children was born to this union, two sons dying 
in infancy and a daughter, now Mrs. Earl Henderson resides 
in Vernon township, Isabella County.

     In 1919 they sold this farm and bought a home in Mt. 
Pleasant.  Then in 1920 having the desire to own a farm 
again, they bought their present home in Vernon Township.  
After renting the farm for almost 4 years, they moved on
To it in 1924.

     Her husband preceded her in death on January 12, 1949.

     On account of ill health Mrs. Van Conant was not able 
to go places and stayed mostly at home the past 10 years.  
Her enjoyment has been her radio and the telephone  
conversations with her many friends.  She had a very keen
mind for a woman of her age and with all the suffering, 
maintained a cheerful disposition.

     She leaves to mourn her passing her daughter, Mrs Earl 
Henderson, two granddaughters, Mrs Lorena Honeychurch and 
Mrs. Valdeen Warren, one nine months old great- 
granddaughter, Suellen Lynn Warren of Lansing.  Several
nieces and nephews and a host of friends.

     Funeral services were held Tuesday, November 4, at 
2:00 P.M. at the Methodist Church with Loyal Thornton of 
Coleman Methdist Church, officiating and burial in Cherry 
Grove Cemetery.  Doherty's were in charge of the 
arrangements.

     Those from a distance attending the funeral were a 
niece, Mrs. Luellen Seiloff of Whitmore Lake, a nephew 
Arthur Leach and wife Helen, and Mrs. Rose Lappan of 
Saginaw, Mr. & Mrs. Cal Harrington of Lansing, Mr. & Mrs. 
Will Henderson and son Allen of Harrison, and Mr. & Mrs. 
Chester Ayris of Mt. Pleasant.
