Burkhard, 73, of Bad Axe, passed away on Friday, December 26, 2003, at Covenant Medical Center in Saginaw following a brief illness. He was born on March 24, 1930 in Harbor Beach, son of the late Alexander and Edith (Gerstenschlager) Burkhard. He married Angeline Hessling on September 5, 1953 in Detroit. They celebrated 50 years of marriage in September of 2003. Mr. Burkhard was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church, the Knights of Columbus and the Ubly Fox Hunter's Club. He served two years on the Bad Axe City Council. He also served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War. He enjoyed woodworking, hunting, fishing, boating, and traveling. He was employed at McCall's Plumbing and Heating from 1956 until 1965 when he purchased the business from Howard McCall. The business then became Burkhard Plumbing and Heating. Harley owned and operated the business from 1965 until his retirement in 1992. He is survived by his wife, Angeline Burkhard, of Bad Axe; three sons, Michael Burkhard and his wife, Karen, of Bad Axe, Thomas Burkhard and his wife, Heather, of Bad Axe, and Harley D. Burkhard and his wife, Kathy, of Saginaw; five daughters, Cindy Maurer and her husband, Clem, of Bad Axe, Brenda Kennedy and her husband, Terry, of Bad Axe, Pamela Rivard and her husband, Larry, of Bad Axe, Deborah Rogers and her husband, Jim, of Ortonville, Darlene Candela and her husband, Joe, of Cass City; six brothers, Harold Burkhard and his wife, Dorothy, of Harbor Beach, Edwin Burkhard and his wife, Bernice, of Harbor Beach, Alex Burkhard, Jr. and his wife, Donna, of Harbor Beach, Leslie Burkhard and his wife, Dotty, of Harbor Beach, Delbert Burkhard and his wife, Grace, of Harbor Beach, Robert Burkhard and his wife, Betty, of Bad Axe; three sisters, Emily Smith and her husband, Jim, of Harbor Beach, Elaine LaBelle, of Marlette, Beverly Forstner, of Durand; 17 grandchildren, Eric and Tammy Burkhard, Kevin Maurer, Lauren and Ryan Burkhard, Jennifer, Justin and Joshua Kennedy, Rebecca, Christopher and Jaclyn Rivard, Matthew and Katelyn Rogers, Christine and Jonathan Burkhard, Joseph and Delanie Candela. He was preceded in death by one daughter, Patricia Burkhard; three grandchildren, Brian Burkhard, Jason Maurer and Jessica Rogers; two brothers, Roland and Carl Burkhard; one brother-in-law, Glen Forstner. Mass of Christian Burial will be at 11 a.m. on Monday, December 29, 2003, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church. Fr. James Carlson will officiate. Visitation will be at the Kaufman Funeral Home in Bad Axe from 1 to 9 p.m. today and from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. on Monday. A Parish Scripture service will take place at 7 p.m. Sunday with a combined Knights of Columbus and Daughters of Isabella rosary at 8 p.m. at the funeral home. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Delphie Bloomfield Delphie D. Bloomfield, 87, of Sebewaing, passed away on Friday, December 26, 2003, in Pigeon. There will be no visitation or funeral service. Cremation has taken place at the Sunset Valley Crematory in Bay City. Arrangements are being handled by the Dinkel- Juengel Funeral Home in Sebewaing. Larry Kambeitz Larry Kambeitz, 67, of Caseville, passed away on Wednesday, December 24, 2003. He is survived by his beloved wife, Caroline Kambeitz; six children and 11 grandchildren. Funeral services will at 11 a.m. on Monday, December 29, 2003, at Faith Baptist Church, 3410 Airport Road, in Waterford, with Pastor Jim Combs officiating. Interment will be at Resurrection Cemetery. Visitation will be from noon to 6 p.m. today, and from 10 to 11 a.m. on Monday at the Coats Funeral Home in Waterford. Rutherford, 49, of Port Hope, passed away on Tuesday, December 23, 2003, in Sanilac County from injuries sustained in an automobile accident. He was born August 6, 1954 in Detroit to Thomas and Joanne (VanBatavia) Rutherford. He married Michelle "Chelle" Shelton on June 25, 1994 in Farmington Hills. Marc began working with his father as an electrician in the construction of new homes. After his father's death, Marc worked for an electric company, doing industrial electrical work. He was a member of Electrical Union Local No. 58 in Detroit. Marc is survived by his wife, Chelle; children, Marc Van Rutherford II, of Livonia, Chad Van Rutherford, of Livonia, Sean Matthew Rutherford, of Livonia, Cory Daniel Rutherford, of Port Hope; stepchildren, Shawn Baldwin, Scott Baldwin, Chris Baldwin and Brady Baldwin, all of Port Hope; brothers, Lesli Specht, of Chicago, Illinois, Jon Rutherford, of Royal Oak, Nancy Pellone and her husband, Joey, of Tampa/St. Petersburg, Florida, Douglas Rutherford, of Traverse City, Robert Rutherford, of San Francisco, California; and two nieces. Janice Voss-Zagorski Janice Kay Voss-Zagorski, 48, of Lakeland, and formerly of Pigeon, passed away on Sunday morning, December 21, 2003, at St. Joseph Mercy Hospital near Ypsilanti. Monday, December 29, 2003 Neva Craig Neva Lucille Craig, 88, longtime Elkton resident, died Saturday morning, December 27, 2003, at the Huron County Medical Care Facility. She was born August 24, 1915 at the home of her parents, the late Edward and Florence (Fitchett) Harrison in Lake Township. Neva was a hard working woman. She raised and cared for eight children. She enjoyed cooking and visiting with friends and family. Surviving are three daughters, Darlene Overmyer and her husband, Keith, of Elsie, Linda Woycik, of Warren, and Donna Kopah, of Bad Axe; her son, Terry Craig, of Austin, Texas; six grandchildren; one great- granddaughter; and a sister-in-law, Eldora Harrison, of Bad Axe. Preceding her in death were three sons, Don, Virgil, and Eddie; a daughter, Arla; and three brothers, Glenn, Edward, and Lee. Donald Deichmann Donald F. Deichmann, 74, of Bad Axe, passed away on Thursday, December 25, 2003, at his home following an extended illness. He was born October 9, 1929 in Linkville, son of the late Alfred and Beatrice (Dunn) Deichmann. He married Joyce McIntyre on February 23, 1952 in St. Columbkille Catholic Church in Sheridan Township. Mr. Deichmann worked for Lasky Construction and was an active member of Our Savior Lutheran Church in Bad Axe. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, gardening, tinkering on various projects, and spending time with his grandchildren. He is survived by his wife, Joyce Deichmann, of Bad Axe; four daughters, Ann James and her husband, David, of Chesaning, Kay Malzahn, of Saginaw, Donna Edick and her husband, Aldon, of Rockford, and Nancy Steadman and her husband, Richard, of Fremont, California; one brother, Harold Deichmann and his wife, Dee, of Granbury, Texas; one sister, Anita Gettel, of Pigeon; seven grandchildren; one great-grandson. He was preceded in death by one brother, Robert Deichmann; one sister, Doris Elaine Deichmann. A memorial service will be conducted at 11 a.m. on Saturday, January 3, 2004, at Our Savior Lutheran Church in Bad Axe. Officiating will be the Rev. Kenneth Lueke, pastor, and Mr. Ray Sting. Heck, 77, of Pigeon, passed away on Sunday, December 28, 2003, at Scheurer Hospital in Pigeon. He was born in Winsor Township on December 21, 1926, son of the late Elmer W. and Margaret K. (Froehling) Heck and graduated from St. Paul Lutheran School in Linkville. He served with the U.S. Infantry in the Pacific Theatre during World War II and was a life member of the VFW Pigeon Post 2236. Throughout his lifetime, Mr. Heck loved and raised horses. He was active with the Racehorse Trotters Association and raced in the Detroit and Toledo areas. He was a lifelong member of St. Paul Lutheran Church in Linkville, having been baptized and confirmed there. He is survived by two sisters, June M. Dunn, of Pigeon and Vernita B. Vollmer, of Owendale; two nieces and four nephews, Kurt Heck and his wife, Carolyn, Randy Heck and his wife, Natalie, Robert Dunn, Cathy Haley and her husband, Ken, Connie Gaeth and her husband, Mike, and Dennis Vollmer and his wife, Toni; and many great-nieces and great- nephews. He was preceded in death by a brother, Ervin Heck, and a nephew, Dale Heck. The funeral service will be conducted at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, December 30, 2003, at St. Paul Lutheran Church, Linkville, with the Rev. Lee C. Wenskay, pastor, officiating. Manley, 71, of Deckerville, died Saturday, December 27, 2003, in St. John Hospital, Detroit. He was born January 16, 1932 in Custer Township, the son of Roy and Freda (Reich) Manley. He married Faith (Grant) Wright on May 4, 1962 in Deckerville. He owned and operated Plasta Coat Corporation and Protocraft Corporation for the last 33 years, and Lowell Manley Shooting Supplies. He was active in making custom gun stocks and was a member of the National Rifle Association. He is survived by his wife, Faith, of Deckerville; one daughter, Elaine Hickson and her husband, Ray, of Deckerville; two granddaughters, Faith Ruiter and her husband, Floyd, of Ohio and Shanna Forsyth and her husband, Kirk, of Deckerville; and three great-grandchildren. Funeral services for Lowell H. Manley will be at 1 p.m. on Tuesday, December 30, 2003, in the Apsey Funeral Home. The Rev. Robert Stock will officiate. Burial will be in Washington Township Cemetery. Tuesday, December 30, 2003 Hazel MacDonald Hazel MacDonald, 92, of Bad Axe and formerly of East Pointe, died Tuesday, December 23, 2003, at Courtney Manor in Bad Axe. She was born March 24, 1912 in Bad Axe, daughter of the late Alexander and Mary (St. George) MacDonald. Hazel enjoyed playing bingo and cards, especially rummy. She is survived by one son, Kenneth MacDonald and his wife, Betty, of Bad Axe; one sister, Lillian Bair, of Bad Axe; one brother, John MacDonald, of Chicago; 11 grandchildren, Bradley MacDonald, of Warren, Elizabeth Szczepanski and her husband, Gerard, of East Pointe, Edward MacDonald, of Bad Axe, Kathy Niezgoda, of Pulaski, Tennessee. Kenneth MacDonald and his wife, Cheryl, of East Pointe, Mary Gorkowski and her husband, John, of Filion, Diane Newby and her husband, Dean, of East Pointe, William MacDonald, of Bay City, Michael Kaminsky, of Lansing, Steven Kaminsky, of Ohio, Andrea Kaminsky, of Chicago; 13 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren. Hazel was preceded in death by her parents; a daughter, Carol Kaminsky; four sisters, Mary Russell, Gertrude Brown, Clarabell Bailey, Jenny Osentoski; three brothers, Ronald MacDonald, Erwin MacDonald, Howard MacDonald; and one brother-in-law, Benjamin Bair. Wednesday, December 31, 2003 Clarence McCollough Clarence Junior "Mac" McCollough, 76, of White Rock near Harbor Beach, passed away Tuesday, December 30, 2003, in Mercy Hospital, Port Huron, following a lengthy illness. Born in Dearborn on June 26, 1927, he was the son of the late Clarence and Lucille (Hannah) McCollough. Mac was a veteran of World War II serving in the U.S. Navy, on the U.S.S. Arkansas during the time of the under water atomic bomb test at Bikini Atoll. Mac also sailed the Great Lakes as a wheels man on the Henry Ford II. He retired from Mich-Con after 31 years. He was head of the service department of heating and cooling. Mac worked the past 16 years as a maintenance man for the Harbor House Apartments of Harbor Beach. He was a volunteer for meals on wheels and also a member of the American Legion Post No. 197, and VFW Post No. 9344. Mac was a sportsman all his life; he enjoyed fishing and hunting. He designed and built his own lighthouse in White Rock and there he became known as "The Lighthouse Keeper". His goal was to keep White Rock on the map. He enjoyed sharing many tales and historical facts of the area. Clarence is survived by his children: Mary Jackson and her husband, John, of Whitmore Lake, Joseph McCollough and his wife, Cindy, of South Lyon, Lucille VanZandt, of Jackson, Betty Monarch and her husband, Mark, of Petersburg, Kathy Henderson and her husband, David, of Harbor Beach; 11 grandchildren; one great-grandchild; a sister, Marilyn Edwards, of White Rock; a brother, Patrick McCollough, of Lansing; several nieces and nephews; special friend Gloria Pawlowski, of Harbor Beach and her children, James and John Pawlowski and JoAnn Sutton. Funeral services will take place at 11 a.m. on Friday, January 2, 2004, at the Ramsey Funeral Home of Harbor Beach with the Rev. Theresa Cutler officiating. Burial will be in the White Rock Cemetery. Military honors will be given in honor of Mac by both the American Legion Post No. 197 and the VFW Post No. 9344. Roy Chubb Roy Chubb, 79, of Clearwater, Florida and formerly of Caseville, passed away on Monday evening, December 29, 2003, at Mease-Dunedin Hospital in Dunedin, Florida. He was born April 7, 1924 in BereAlston, Debinshire, England, and moved to the Detroit area at the age of 4 with his parents, the late William and Louisa (Coleridge) Chubb. On June 5, 1948, he was united in marriage to Blanche "Sally" Videan in Detroit. Roy was a police officer for the City of Detroit for 25 years retiring in 1973. He then served as a security guard at Providence Hospital in Southfield for 10 years. Roy and Sally had been traveling to the Thumb since the early 60's, and in 1986 they moved to their cottage in Caseville. Three years later, on August 29, 1989, Sally passed away. Roy stayed in Caseville for a while but has lived permanently in Clearwater, Florida, for the past nine years. He is survived by four children: Sandra Meuleveld and her husband, Richard, of Blaine, Minnesota, Patricia McClellan and her husband, Robert, of Brighton, Cheryl Yash and her husband, Allen, of Fenton, and William Chubb and his wife, Leeann, of Elkton; nine grandchildren, Terra, Paula, Cassandra, Jason, Michelle, Gordon, Kristin, Bill and Krista; two great-grandchildren, Dakota and Kiley; two brothers, Will Chubb and his wife, Patricia, of St. Petersburg and Thomas Chubb and his wife, Sue, of Marysville. Graveside services will be conducted at the Caseville Township Cemetery. Thursday, January 1, 2004 – New Year's Day Holiday Friday, January 2, 2004 Jean Rapson Jean Rapson, 88, of Vassar and formerly of Bad Axe, passed away on Thursday, January 1, 2004, at Covenant Healthcare - Harrison in Saginaw. She was born in Bad Axe on July 21, 1915 to the late Colin and Cynthia (Clark) McIntyre. She married Warren Rapson on July 10, 1940 in Bad Axe. He preceded her in death in 1988. Mrs. Rapson was a member of First Presbyterian Church in Vassar. Survivors include three children, Don Rapson and his wife, Carolyn Kay, of Linwood, Gary Rapson and his wife, Bonnie, of Vassar and Betty Roth and her husband, Charles, of Stevensville; eight grandchildren, Larry Rapson and his wife, Sheryl, Cathy Cain and her husband, Jim, Dewey Rapson and his wife, Suzanne, Sherry Urbanczyk and her husband, Randy, Tracy Tappen and her husband, Mike, Steven Roth, Michael Roth and his wife, Keri, and Rebecca Roth; six great-grandchildren; a brother, Colin McIntyre, of Bad Axe; as well as several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by a brother, Nevin McIntyre. The funeral service will be at 11 a.m. on Monday, January 5, 2004, at Penzien - Steele Funeral Home Hanlin Chapel, 149 N. Main St., Vassar. The Rev. John Becker will officiate with interment to follow in Riverside Cemetery. Visitation will be from 1 to 9 p.m. on Sunday at the funeral home. Memorial contributions can be made to the First Presbyterian Church in Vassar. Maxine Rooney Maxine E. Rooney, 79, of Pigeon and formerly of Davison, passed away on Wednesday, December 31, 2003. She was born on March 4, 1924 in Flint, the daughter of the late Glen and Opal (Whitney) Heiss. She had worked at AC Spark Plug for 32 years and was a member of the Davison VFW Post No. 4087 Auxiliary. She is survived by her daughters, Linda Hillaker and her husband, Don, and Diane E. Siple; 12 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; brother-in-law, Leroy Redumski; several nieces and nephews; all her friends on Crandon Drive in Davison and at Country Bay in Pigeon; and her beloved cat, Patches. She was preceded in death by her husband, Richard; brother, James Heiss; sister, Shirley Redumski; and son-in-law, Wayne Siple. A funeral service will be conducted at 1 p.m. on Saturday, January 3, 2004, at Allen Funeral Home, 9136 E. Davison Rd., Davison. Entombment will be at Flint Memorial Park Cemetery.
