C herished grandfather of Storm, Bryce, Luke, Gavin, Kendra, Leila, Gabe and Lexi. Visitation Monday 3-9 p.m., with a K of C Rosary at 7 p.m. at the D.S. Temrowski & Sons Funeral Home, 30009 Hoover Rd. at Common (12 1/2 Mile Road). Guitar, age 84, died Thursday, June 4, 2015 at Harper University Hospital in Detroit following a lengthy illness. William was born October 19, 1930 in Michigan's Thumb, in a little town called Ruth. He was the son of the late John Roman and the late Hazel (nee: Tenbusch) Guitar Educated in the Catholic High School system, some of William's fondest memories in retelling those days were the positions he played on both the varsity baseball and varsity basketball teams. For 3 running years, the basketball team held the high honor of winning 67 of 72 games, and affording themselves the opportunity of participating in the state tournaments, as well. Following graduation, William worked at a couple of different jobs prior to getting called up to serve in the U.S. Army. From 1951 to 1953, during the Korean War era, he answered the call to duty and served with valiance and bravery until receiving his honorable discharge. With thanks & praise from a grateful nation, we pay homage to William for his service, his patriotism, and for his willingness to stand in harm's way for the sake of freedom and liberty for our friends in foreign lands. Upon returning from his military service, William secured a position with the Masco Corporation where he extended the utmost in dedicated and loyal service, for over 42 years, until accepting his well- deserved retirement. The year 1961 was certainly a memorable one for William as that was when he promised himself in marriage to the love of his life, Sylvia. The two lovebirds went on to raise 3 sons, nurture the warmth of home & hearth together, and grow deeper in love with each passing day. When William wasn't working, he enjoyed some simple pleasures like hangin' out at a favorite fishing hole and casting his line in hopes of catching the elusive "Big One." Or perhaps spending an afternoon at the casino giving Ol' Lady Luck a run for her money, in the hopes of an entirely different kind of "Big One." William was also a huge sports fan, with his favorite Boys of Summer, the Detroit Tigers, being his optimum source of sporting pleasure. Yet of all the activities that caught his attention, none could beat the joy and excitement of watching his grandkids participate in their respective events. Nothing says "supportive" like having Grandpa up in the stands rooting you on! Along with the many traits and aspects of William's life that will long be remembered, one of the dearest and most inspiring will forever be his devout and abiding faith. He loved his Lord and was proud to be a founding member of St. Edmund Catholic Church in Warren, the newly named, St. Faustina Catholic Church. As a strong and devoted Catholic, it made perfect sense that William would ultimately choose to join the ranks of the distinguished Knights of Columbus. For over 60 years, he was a Knight with the Fr. Kramer Council in Center Line, Michigan, and served with honor and distinction alongside his fellow brethren and men of God. A loving husband, father and grandfather, William leaves behind a legacy of love and faith that will forever be a shining example of what it means to be loved, and to share that love unconditionally. He touched a multitude of hearts and souls throughout his journey in life, and will be warmly remembered by all who were blessed to know him. He will be missed immensely and loved eternally. William was the loving husband of Sylvia A.; the beloved father of Michael (Renee), Timothy (Cheryl), and the late Gregory. William was the dear father- in-law of Lisa Guitar; the treasured brother of Marjorie (Chet) Roggenbuck, Rita Pawlowski, and the late Cheryl Geiger. He was the cherished grandfather of Storm, Bryce, Luke, Gavin, Kendra, Leila, Gabe and Lexi. Visitation for William will be held Monday, June 8th from 3 - 9 pm, with a 7:00 pm Knights of Columbus Rosary Service, at the D.S. Temrowski & Sons Funeral Home, 30009 Hoover Rd. at Common (12 1/2 Mile Rd.) in Warren. He will lie in state Tuesday from 9:30 am until time of the Funeral Mass at 10:00 am at St. Faustina Catholic Church (formerly St. Edmund) in Warren.
