Henry Piontkowski March 16, 1933 - July 7, 2016 Mr. Henry Piontkowski, 83, of Ubly, passed way Thursday, July 7, 2016, at McLaren Bay Region Hospital in Bay City after a long battle with heart disease. Henry was born on March 16, 1933, in Detroit, to the late Alexander and Helen (Bojarski) Piontkowski. He married Shirley Rutkowski on March 5, 1957 at Our Lady Queen of Apostles Church in Hamtramck. Henry attended Wilbur Wright High School and graduated in July of 1950. He was drafted into the US Army on April 10, 1953 and served as a Cryptograph Operator until April 9, 1955 when he was honorably discharged. Henry loved to travel and worked as Technical Support for various Corporations that took him into Mexico many times. He retired from a door company in Pontiac called Openings on April 1, 2001. Henry and Shirley moved from Shelby Twp to Ubly in September of 2001 to the new house they built to enjoy their retirement years. Henry was a proud member of the Thumb Veterans Organization Post #1 since July of 2002. He was a Knights of Columbus member for many years in Warren and then had his membership transferred to the Ubly Sheridan Knights of Columbus Council once he moved to Ubly. Henry enjoyed “O” gauge model trains for most of: his life. He also enjoyed the winter months in Arizona that was next to the Superstition Mountains. Henry is survived by his wife of 59 years, Shirley, of Ubly; one son, Brian Piontkowski and daughter-in-law, Joyce (Dara) Piontkowski of Ray, Michigan. He was preceded in death by his parents; his stepfather, Frank Sebastyanski; one sister, Jeanette (Piontkowski) Szadaj; one brother, Leonard Piontkowski; and one brother-in-law, Peter Szadaj. A Mass, of Christian Burial was held at 11:00 am on Monday, July 11, 2016, at Good Shepherd Parish, St John Church in Ubly. Rev. Charles Hammond, pastor, officiated. Burial was in the church cemetery. Visitation was at St. John Church only, on Monday from 9:00 a.m. until the Mass at 11:00 a.m. Memorials have been requested to the St John Building Fund.
