The Lowell Ledger, June 9, 1898


Joseph C. Ball of this township died at the soldier’s home Tuesday June 2, at 
the age of 71 years.  Funeral services were held at South Boston M. E. church 
on Sunday, sermon conducted by the Rev. Renshaw of Alto.

Mr. Ball came to this vicinity from Buffalo about forty-five years ago and has 
been an Oddfellow those years both as respects the (illegible) and the fact 
that he was never married.  He was connected with the Lowell Lodge first and 
then with the Freeport lodge, afterward returning to and remaining with the 
Lowell branch of the order.  Some twenty-five members of the Lowell lodge 
attended the funeral obsequies and neighboring societies were represented.
