At the age of 17 he enlisted in Company Co of the 111th Ohio Infantry and served until the close of the Civil War. In the Fall of 1866 he came with his parents to Michigan where they located at Fulton Center, Gratiot county. In 1866 he was united in marriage to Jennie Harvey; who died the following year. In 1869 he was married to Sarah Avery of Hubbardston, who preceded him in death by seventeen months. To this union were born six children, of whom four sons are living: Vernon of California, Earl of Illinois, Arthur of Detroit, and Elmer of Hubbardston. There are five grandchildren, and one great grandchild. Since 1868 Mr. Barrone had lived in Hubbardston and vicinity. For many years he was active in the local organization of G.A.R. During his later years of failing health Mr. Barrone had been the especial care of his son and wife, Mrs. and Mrs. Elmer Barrone.
