Melvin D. Bishop, 91, of Texas, formerly of Ionia, died Thursday, November 13, 
2003 at Twinbrooke South Nursing Home.  He was born December 20, 1911 in 
Mecosta County.

He was married to Thelma Hillman for 48 years.  He was a member of the Belding-
Ionia Masonic Lodge and a member of the National Guard from 1933 until 1940.  

He was preceded in death by his brother, Ronald Bishop; and a son, Robert 
Bishop.  He is survived by his wife, Thelma Hillman Bishop; two sons, Norvall 
and Jackie Bishop of Maryland, Fred and Ellie Bishop of Michigan; two 
daughters, Due Kersjes, Audrey and Willy Walthuis, all of Michigan; brother, 
Devilo Bishop of Michigan; daughter-in-law, Dorothy Bishop of Michigan; 24 
grandchildren, 40 great-grandchildren and six great-great grandchildren.  

A memorial service was November 17 at Orange Grove RV Park on East Highway 
107.  Services were entrusted to the care of Kriedler Funeral Home.
