Stephen Bostwick, aged 62 years, for several years a resident of this community 
and quite well known through the fact that for two or three years he was 
employed here as street cleaner, died at Butterworth hospital Tuesday night 
from injuries sustained when the automobile which he was driving, left the road 
and plunged through a fence a short distance west of Bostwick lake Saturday 
shortly after noon.

Mr. Bostwick left Grand Rapids Saturday afternoon and was making his way to 
this city.  He was alone at the time but it is supposed that he became confused 
at another car which was coming around the turn in the road and unwittingly 
stepped on the gas, with the result that the machine leaped ahead and leaving 
the road, crashed through the fence.  The machine was badly damaged and Mr. 
Bostwick received a fractured skull as one of his injuries.

Several cars sped past the wreck and the unconscious man lying near it and it 
was not until some time later that a passerby, going toward Grand Rapids, 
noticed something wrong and took Mr. Bostwick to the hospital, where he 
lingered until Tuesday night without regaining consciousness.

Mr. Bostwick came to this city about eight years ago.  He had lived the life of 
a bachelor and then married Mrs. Laura Rose, of this city.  She died about two 
years ago since which time he had lived alone until about three months ago when 
he went back to Grand Rapids and secured employment as operator of an 
elevator.  Last spring he purchased the automobile in which he met his death 
and had been having a lot of trouble with it in one way and another.  He was 
well along in years and did not seem able to get onto the way of driving a car 
and it worried and confused him a great deal.  He was on his way back here for 
some purpose when he evidently became confused and the crash came which 
resulted in his death.

The accident happened at practically the same place in the road in which Perce 
J. Cox, the Grand Rapids salesman, met his death a week before when his car 
collided with another driven by Wm. F. Sandell of this city.
