Ionia Sentinel Standard, 2 Jul 1963

Alva S. Brand, 81, died Tuesday morning at his home, 813 West Washington, after
an illness of several months.  He was born in Ohio February 17, 1882 and came to
Michigan at the age of 16.  In 1924 he moved to Ionia and was employed at
Michigan Reformatory until his retirement in 1952.  He was a member of Mud Lake
Baptist church.

In 1900 he was married in Evergreen township, Montcalm county, to Maude Canfield
who survives.  Other survivors include two daughters, Mrs. Donald Wolverton of
Muir and Mrs. Maurice Bice of Ionia; four sons, Samra of Lansing and Durward,
Floyd and Clyde Brand of Ionia; 10 grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and
a sister, Mrs. Anna McBride of Greenville.

Funeral service will be Thursday at 1:30 p.m. at Stone-Kauffman funeral home
with interment at Evergreen cemetery, Montcalm county.
