Excerpts from Greenville Obituary

NORMAN "NORM" EARL BROWN

Died Monday June 15, 2026-age 95 of Greenville.
Born July 22, 1930 in Belding, MI, son of Linus & Ruth (Thomas) Brown.
Married Marilyn Fries Brown in 1948 & they were married for 52 years before her 
death in 2001.
They both loved traveling, visiting family & friends, & enjoying the outdoors, 
with hobbies of downhill skiing, canoe racing & sailing.
Norm graduated from Belding High School in 1949 were he met Marilyn.
Norm was mentored by his father-in-law Ernest Fries & Greenville Tool & Die 
founder, Stan Ash. With that foundation, Norm earned his certificate as a 
journeyman tool & die maker.
Norm & Marilyn established Norm's Ski Shop in 1955. Norm became one of the best 
ski boot fitters in the ski business. He built tools & designs for ski boot 
fitting & cold tuning skis that no one else could do. The Ski Shop remains open 
by his daughter, Chris & son-in-law Greg.
Norm climbed the Grand Teton with his son,Bart, sailed from Seattle, WA to 
Alaska & raced the AuSable River Canoe Marathon nine times.He traveled the world 
by ski, sailboat, & PT Cruiser with family & friends, alway wanting to reach new 
heights.
Norm was a Scoutmaster for Boy Scouts Troop 130 at First Congregational Church 
in Greenville, where he mentored five Eagle Scouts.
Norm built his home on Youngman Road, & built professional racing canoes & a 
Westsail 32 sailboat, named "Edelweiss", which traveled the Great Lakes with 
Norm & Marilyn as co-captains.
Norm's Way at Crystal Mountain & the Norm Brown GS Invitational are named after 
him.
Norm's four children are Bart, Vicki, Tracey & Chris who will continue to carry 
on his legacy. Because of his wife, Marilyn, his grandmother Mae, & his mother-
in-law, Ina that allowed Norm to harness his many talents & dreams to become a 
true legend whose enduring legacy will live on.
Survived by his children, Bart Brown of Greenville, Vickie (Wayne) Korson of 
Canadian Lakes, Tracey (Tom) Koperski of East Grand Rapids, & Chris (Gregg) 
Glasen of Kent City; five grandchildren;Kim Korson (Perry), Rex (Jessica)Korson, 
Dylan Brown, Kaitlin (Bill) Popielarz & Maggie (Kyle) Kimball; & five great-
grandchildren;Jack, T.J., Noah, Lily, & Charlie.
Preceded in death by his parents, wife, Marilyn, and his  Sister Barb.
Family members will meet with friends & relatives at Noon to 2pm & 4 to 6 pm, 
Friday, June 19, 2026 at Marshall Funeral Home, Greenville,MI. 
Memorial Services will be at 11AM Saturday, June 29, at First Congregational 
Church, with Pastor Ed Milan officiating.
Burial at Forest Home Cemetery.
Memorial contributions may be made to Greater Grand Rapids High School Ski 
Conference or Clay Street Center of Greenville with supports local Seniors.
