She was born in Mt. Pleasant on Dec. 15, 1919, the daughter of Joseph and Emma Labenthau Simmer. She was employed by the Saranac Post Office for 35 years and was postmaster for 10 of those years. She was a member of St. Anthony’s Catholic Church and the American Legion Women’s Auxiliary. She married Duane Butcher in Ionia on Aug. 7, 1970. Besides her husband she is survived by one son, Duane Butcher Jr. of Kentwood; three daughters, Laura DeVries of Stanton, Durenda Robinson of Saranac and Tracey Salgodo of Saranac; one sister, Angie Hunter of Virginia; and five grandchildren. Five brothers and one sister preceded her in death. Cremation has taken place. A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Friday at St. Anthony’s Catholic Church with the Rev. Eugene Alvesteffer officiating. A memorial has been established for Ionia Area Hospice, in care of the funeral home.
