Fred A. Dalzell, 69, for more than 20 years an employee of the Hayes-Ionia
company here, and for several years it pattern department superintendent, died
at his home, 401 Harter street, at 8:15 o’clock Thursday night.  He had been in
ill health for nearly three years and was taken seriously ill Thanksgiving night
from which he never recovered.

He was born July 3, 1867, in North Plains township, where he lived, excepting
one year spent in the west, until he came to Ionia in 1892 to follow his trade
as a cabinet maker.  In 1896 he was married to Miss Lura Wilson.

When the Hayes-Ionia body factory was founded he was one of its first employees.
 He spent nearly 20 years there, and at the time of its closing in 1929 he was
in charge of the pattern department.

He is survived by the widow, his son Wilson and one grandson.  he was a member
of the Methodist Episcopal church and the Maccabees.

Funeral services will be held Sunday afternoon at 2:30 o’clock from the Boynton
funeral chapel.  Rev. Mathew W. Duffey will officiate.  Interment will be at the
Highland Park mausoleum.
