The Ionia Standard, Friday, August 1,1890

Cornelius Elvert died in this city at an early hour on Friday last, at the age 
of 75 years.  Mr. Elvert was a native of Tiparary, Ireland; he located in 
Ionia in 1837, engaging in the tailoring business.  Later he married Miss Mary 
Butler who, together with three grown children (two daughters and one son), 
survive him.  The funeral was attended from the church of SS. Peter and Paul 
on Monday.

The will of the late Cornelius Elvert provides first, for the payment of all 
debts, including mortgages.  One-third of his estate is given to his daughter, 
Anna Smith, less $200 money advanced.  The remainder is given to his son James 
and his daughter Martha.  Mrs. Mary A. Elvert is given the use of the 
homestead.
