Excerpts from Ionia Obituary

Kenneth Lavern Ferguson

Died July 4, 2026-age 90 of Ionia peacefully in Grand Rapids, MI Grand Rapids.
Born June 13, 1936 in Ionia, MI, son of Donald & Mae (Thomas) Ferguson.
Ken married Carole Jane Welch, on April 30, 1955, in Angola, Indiana. They 
shared 55 years of marriage, until his passing in 2011.
Ken found love again & married  Gayle Stevenson (Gammons) whom he shared the 
final 5 years of his life.
At age 13, K3n began working at L & D Hardware. In 1954, he began his career at 
General Tire/GenCorp Automotive, where he dedicated 44 years of service & 
retired as Maintenance Superintendent when the plant closed in 1998.
Ken enjoyed deer hunting in Michigan & Colorado & was an avid gardener, baking, 
making pickles & turning fresh rhubarb into homemade jam.
He watched his children & grandchildren participate in their activities, tennis, 
motocross track, basketball, basketball, baseball & football. 
Ken was preceded by his first five, Carole, his son, Kenneth Lavern Ferguson Jr. 
(Kennie); his brothers, Mick Ferguson & Donald Ferguson Jr. & his sister, Pat 
McWilliams.
Survived by his wife, Gayle Ferguson, is sons, Lon (Terri) Ferguson of Mattawan, 
Gary (Diane) Ferguson of Stanton, Gordy (Kristin)Ferguson of Byron Center and 
Denny (Naomi) Ferguson of Ionia.
His grandchildren; Jason (Danielle), Matthew, Dustin, (Lydia, Angie, Stephanie 
Hoerr, Kara (Brandon) Bailey, Gary Jr., Stace, Kylie, McKenna, Connor, Isabella, 
Kellan & Reese Ferguson, 15 great-grandchildren, & two great-great-
grandchildren.
Ken also survived by his brother, Doug (Laura) Ferguson of Midland & his dear 
friends, Maynard "Moose" & Carol Musgrave of Defiance, Ohio.
Also remembered by Gayle's children, Lee Stevenson, Jill ofMuskegon, Kimberly 
Stevenson of Ionia, Jeff (Sarah) Stevenson of Ionia, Jill (Stephen) Adolph of 
Texas, & Jodi (Dan) Bartels of Grand Rapids.
His step-grandchildren, Christopher (Rachel) Stevenson, Brittani, Stevenson, 
Brianna (Steven) Monroe, Brooke (Hunter) Gates, Bronson Alejos, Brock (Taylor 
Aejos, Hannah Stevenson, Sarabeth (Findlay) Krueger, Jessica Stevenson, Caleb 
Stevenson, Victoria (Christian Swank, Amelia Adolph, Annaliese,(Noah) Oeverman, 
Olivia (Zach) DeVries, Jillian (Drew) Gasser, & Judah Bartels, 10 great-
grandchildren & one great-great-grandchild.
Celebration of Life will be held at Temple Baptist Church, 1979 S.State road, 
Ionia, on Friday, July 10, at 11:00 a.m. with Pastor Brian Rahn officiating.
Interment in Balcom Cemetery.
Visitation on Thursday, July 9, from 5-8 p.m. and one hour prior to the Friday 
Service.
