Portland Observer, 24 Jul 1895

William Fitch died quite suddenly at his home on his farm north of town on Friday 
afternoon of bowel trouble, aged 63 years.  Mr. Fitch came to Portland with his 
family from Ohio about a dozen years ago and was an upright, honorable citizen.  
He leaves a widow and four children – Nellie, Charlie (who is now at Ennis, 
Montana) Mrs. E. T. White of Saranac, and Jennie.  Funeral services were 
conducted from the house on Monday afternoon, Rev. C. W. Bird of the 
Congregational church officiating.
