Ionia Daily Standard, 15 Apr 1891

Saranac, April 15 – The Rev. James M. Fuller died at his home in this village,
Sunday, April 12, age 84 years.  The deceased was born at Dansville, Vermont,
October 4, 1807 and entered the ministry at the age of 20 years, having occupied
pulpits in the following places in Michigan: Detroit, St. Clair, Saginaw,
Ypsilanti, Calumet, Lowell and Saranac.  At the time of his death he was the
oldest minister of the Detroit M. E. Conference.  In 1863, he raised and
commanded the hundred and fifth Regiment, N.Y. volunteers, thereby gaining the
title of colonel.  He was a man of marked ability, an eloquent speaker and
highly respected.  He was married twice, his first wife being a sister of the
late Edson English, one of the pioneer farmers of this township.  He was married
to Mrs. Sophia Tidd in 1871.  He was the father of five children, only one of
whom is now living, O.B. Fuller, of St. Louis, Mo.  The funeral occurred from
the family residence Tuesday, at two o’clock p.m.  Reverends A. P. Moors and L.
E. Lennox of Ionia, Rev. A. T. Luther of Lowell, and Rev. J. W. Arney of this
place conducted the services.  Interment in the South Boston cemetery.
