Ionia Daily Sentinel Standard, 16 Jun 1959

William a. Gavit, 81, of Clearwater, Fla., died Monday at 9:45 p.m. at Pennock
hospital, Hastings, shortly after being admitted following a stroke.  Mr. Gavit,
a retired fur buyer and former Lake Odessa resident returned last week to spend
the summer at a cottage at Jordan lake.

He was born in Darke county, Ohio, March 26, 1878, the son of Alex and Caroline?
(Birman) Gavit and had spent most of his life in the Lake Odessa area until
moving to Florida three years ago.  He was married to Inez Myers in 1902.

Surviving besides his wife are a son, Jesse of Clearwater, Fla., one daughter,
Mrs. Velma Davis of Tampa, Fla., eight grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren.

The body of Mr. Gavit is at the Pickens funeral chapel where service will be
Thursday at 1:30 p.m.  The Rev. John Crotser of the Evangelical United Brethren
church will officiate.  Burial will be in Lakeside cemetery.
