Dorothy Katherine Goodman, Portland, age 99, passed away on Thursday, January 
9, 2014. She was born on March 9, 1914 in Portland, MI the daughter of Michael 
and Elizabeth (Simon) Smith. She was a member of St. Patrick Catholic Church, 
and volunteered at the American Red Cross. Dorothy enjoyed cooking, playing 
cards, gardening, and being with her family, especially her grandchildren.

Preceding her in death were her husband, Robert; son, Donald; sons-in-law, 
Duane Smith and Gerald Schafer; several brothers and sisters. Surviving are her 
children, Jean Schafer of Fenton, Judy (Jan) Baxter of Charlotte, Tom Goodman 
and Charles (Judie) Goodman, both of Portland; 15 grandchildren; 37 great 
grandchildren; brother-in-law, William Simon.

The Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated by Rev. Larry King at 11:00 
a.m., Monday, January 13, 2014 at St. Patrick Catholic Church, Portland. Rite 
of committal will follow at Portland Cemetery. The family will receive friends 
from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Sunday at Lehman Funeral Homes, 210 E. Bridge Street, 
Portland. Rosaries will be prayed at 3 and 8 p.m. on Sunday. In lieu of 
Flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the St. Patrick Boiler Fund, or 
Eaton Community Palliative Care, in memory of Dorothy. Online condolences may 
be made at www.lehmanfuneralhomes.com.
