All rights reserved. http://www.usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm http://www.usgwarchives.net/mi/mifiles.htm ************************************************ File contributed for use in USGenWeb Archives by: Marilyn Ransom mlnransom@chartermi.net June 12, 2012, 3:07 pm The Ionia Daily Sentinel-Standard, Tuesday, August 10, 1943 Lewis Hibbard, 52, a veteran of overseas duty in World War I, and for the past eight years a guard at the Michigan state reformatory in Ionia, was found dead of a heart attack in his hotel room in Jackson Tuesday morning. Hibbard was transferred to the guard personnel at Jackson prison only six weeks ago after serving in Ionia continuously since 1935. He had previously served one year as guard here from 1932 to 1933. Born in Jackson county October 6, 1891, Hibbard had lived much of his early life in and about Hillsdale county. He enlisted in the United States army July 17, 1917, and served overseas with the 389th motor transport as a corporal. He was discharged in this country May 19, 1919. Later he was conductor at Jackson of the Michigan United railways, an electric line. He was a member of the Ionia home guard service company until he left Ionia six weeks ago.
