Belding News, Friday, 13 April 1900
Burr Hicks passed from earth life last Friday night after a life and death 
struggle with that dreaded disease, consumption, for nearly two years past, in 
the 26th year of his age.  He was a patient sufferer and was conscious to the 
last.  He was born in Danby twp., Ionia County, on April 19, 1874, and came to 
this city with his parents Mr. and Mrs. Jason Hicks about fourteen years ago.  
He was a printer by trade and was a faithful employee in both the Banner and 
Star offices here for several years prior to his illness.  He was a whole-
souled boy; honest, genial and upright, and was admired and esteemed by all 
who knew him.  Funeral services were held at the home on Monday, conducted by 
Rev. J. J. Staley, and the remains were taken to Portland for burial in the 
family lot.
