Higgins born Sept. 26th, 1829, at Blodgett Mills, Cortland Co., N. Lived with his parents until March 1849, when he was married to Lycetta Merrick, of the same place. Two children were born to them. Leaving N. Y. in the fall of 1853, coming to Keene township, Ionia county, and settling on the farm on which he died, Sept. 17, 1905. In 1855 he returned to N. Y. with his wife and two children. In July of the same year his wife died. In April 1857 he returned to Michigan and on Aug. 9th of the same year he was married to Helen A. Frost. Six children were born to them, of which three survive him; Walter B., Clair T. and Ruth M., all at home. He died surrounded by friends and loved ones, who have given him every tender and thoughtful care possible throughout his entire sickness. Mr. Higgins has lived a quiet and peaceful life in our midst, thereby winning the esteem and friendship of all who knew him. He exemplified the same patience and cheerfulness during his long and painful illness that has characterized all his life. A good man has gone and will be missed, not only in the home, but by his many friends, and they are numbered by the score, and the influence of his gentle manly life will long remain as a benediction to us all.
