Hitchcock, 83, of Ionia died Saturday, May 10, 1997 at the Kent Community Hospital in Grand Rapids. Evelyn Lucille Bowen was born Nov. 21, 1913 in Smyrna, the daughter of Charles and Lucie (Richmond) Bowen. She graduated from Lowell High School in 1931 and attended Ionia County Normal for one year. She married William Hitchcock in Angola, Ind. on May 16, 1936. She was a member of the Ionia Senior Citizens and a member of the Easton United Methodist Church. Her life and death was an example to those who knew her. She is survived by two daughters, Mary Ella Wireman of Saranac and Connie (Gary) Shoemaker of Portage; one son, Robert (Cookie) Hitchcock of Fenton; four grandchildren and three great-grandchildren; one sister, Ella Cordtz of Lansing. She was preceded in death by her husband, William, on Nov. 19, 1987, one sister and one brother. Funeral services for Mrs. Evelyn L. Hitchcock will be conducted Tuesday, May 13 at 11 a.m. from the Rich St. Chapel of Cook Funeral Home in Ionia with Rev. Don Wells of Easton United Methodist Church officiating. Visitation will be Monday from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. at the Rich St. Chapel. Interment will be in Easton Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to the Easton United Methodist Church Memorial Fund.
