Ionia Sentinel, 2001

Vanchie P. Houghton, 97, of Sheridan died Wednesday, June 20, 2001 at Heartland 
Health Care Center in Ionia.

Mrs. Houghton was born April 19, 1904 in Blanchard to George W. VanHouten and 
Catherine (Rogers) VanHouten.

Mrs. Houghton was a longtime resident of Sheridan.  She attended Shiloh 
Community Church and enjoyed spending time with her family.  

Mrs. Houghton is survived by two daughters: Linda (Bob) Gladding, of Fenwick, 
Kathryn (Richard) Jennings, of Harwich, Mass.; five sons: Garth (Vivian) 
Houghton, of Six Lakes, Laurine (Marilyn) Houghton, of Lake City, Jack 
(Roxanne) Houghton, of Fife Lake, Dallas (Sharon) Houghton, of Fenwick, Howard 
(Marilyn) Houghton of Fenwick; one daughter-in-law: Theda Houghton, of 
Lakeview; 31 grandchildren, 64 great-grandchildren and 18 great-great-
grandchildren.

Mrs. Houghton is preceded in death by her parents, her husband Orlo H. Houghton 
- on September 14, 1982, one son Dennie Houghton, three grandchildren and six 
great-grandchildren.

Visitation will be held on Friday, from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. and from 7 p.m. to 
8:30 p.m. at the Stebbins & Simpson Funeral Home, in Sheridan.  Funeral 
Services will be on Saturday, at 11 a.m. at the Shiloh Community Church.  Rev. 
Kenneth Harger will be officiating.  Mrs. Houghton will be interred at the 
Clear Lake Cemetery.  The family suggests memorial considerations to the Shiloh 
Community Church.
