Jack R. Johnston, 72, of St. Johns, a dearly beloved husband, father, 
grandfather and great-grandfather, died Friday April 11, 2003.

Jack was born February 14, 1931 in Stanton, the son of George and Pearl 
Johnston, of Muir.  Jack attended Lyons High School and served in the United 
States Air Force.  Jack was retired from General Motors after 30 years where 
he drove semi-trucks and was a proud member of U.A.W. Local #652.  His loved 
were his wife of 52 years, his family, and the Maple River Strummers of which 
he was their Master of Ceremonies.  Jack loved being active at his home with 
woodworking and gardening, where his workmanship showed in the various 
atriums, flower beds and habitats for his animal friends that gave him hours 
of enjoyment.  Traveling to friends and family, being active with Hospice was 
also big with Jack, and best of all, hunting with his children.

Jack is survived by his wife Florence; six sons, Tom Johnston of Perrinton, 
Jerry (Debbie) Johnston of Columbia, Tennessee, Randy (Joyce) Johnston of St. 
Johns, Joe (Lisa) Johnston of Perrinton, David Johnston of Kissimmee, Florida, 
and Jack (Amy) Johnston II of Cedar Hill, Tennessee; five daughters, Linda 
Johnston of Ovid, Brenda (Tom) Young of Perrington, Jackie (Clyde) Hamill of 
Grand Terrace, California, Mary (Alan) Greene of Kissimmee, Florida, and Karen 
(Steve) Henning of Charlotte, North Carolina, 24 grandchildren, two brothers, 
Harry (Jean) Carroll and Jim (Clara) Johnston, two sisters, Louise (Vernol) 
Scutt and Lois (George) Miller and several nieces and nephews.  Jack was 
preceded in death by his parents, George and Pearl, sister Lucille, brother 
Joe and grandson Ryan Johnson.

Services for Jack will be held 1 p.m. today at the Osgood Funeral Home, St. 
Johns, with Rev. Fr. Eoin Murphy officiating.  The family will receive friends 
from noon to 1 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.  In lieu of lowers, 
donations may be made to Hospice of Ionia County.
