Funeral services were held at the Congregational church Wednesday afternoon for Mrs. Clara Lockwood, 80, who died Monday morning at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Fred England on Grant street. Rev. Donald Evans officiated at the rites, with interment at Portland cemetery. Mrs. Lockwood, long-time resident of this community, had been ill for several weeks. She was born in Macomb county where she married Thomas J. Lockwood. Since coming to this vicinity they lived on farms in Danby township and north of Portland. Previous to Mr. Lockwood’s death six years ago they moved to a home in the village. Surviving are five daughters, Mrs. Edna Shute of Akron, Mrs. Fred England of Portland, Mrs. Clara Taylor of San Francisco, Mrs. Arthur L. Francis of Lansing and Mrs. Arthur Mcgarah of Portland; five sons, Cass Lockwood of Oklahoma City, Charles Lockwood of Jackson, Frank Lockwood of Joplin, Mo., Leon Lockwood of Ionia and Robert Lockwood of Portland. There are two sisters, Mrs. Elma Stone and Miss Grace Davis, both of Washington, Michigan, and two brothers, Park and Dwight Davis of California. The deceased was a member of the Congregational church and Guild, and held a life membership in the Order of Eastern Star. Sons and sons-in-law of Mrs. Lockwood acted as pallbearers.
