In her death this community loses a familiar character, one who had been identified with the growth and changes of this immediate vicinity for more than half a century. The funeral ceremony was attended at the M.E. church on Monday afternoon. Rev. Alfred Cornell preached the sermon, being assisted in the exercises by Rev. A. P. Moors. The discourse was from Malachi III, 17: “And they shall be mine, saith the Lord of Hosts,” etc. Speaking of Mrs. Lovell, he said: “I have known her for half a century and never thought otherwise of her than as one of the most amiable Christian women of my acquaintance.” Again he said: “Many of you know the quiet, unobtrusive, amiable character of the departed one better than I do. There has never been a day that I haven’t had the most profound respect for her as a citizen and a Christian.” Many old residents were in attendance, and marked expression of sorrow were visible on all sides. The remains were deposited in the old cemetery.
