Wayne Douglas Matthews, aged 53, of Muir, passed away due to accidental 
injuries sustained in a car accident May 29, 2005.

Wayne was born February 27, 1952 in Ionia, the son of Arthur W. and Donnabelle 
(Bennett) Matthews.  He was a graduate of Ionia High School in 1971.  He served 
in the United States Coast Guard during the Vietnam War.  He was a life member 
of the VVA Chapter 354 and a member of the Ionia Moose Lodge.  He worked as a 
supervisor for Herbrucks Poultry Ranch.

Wayne enjoyed playing horseshoes just like his father.  He also enjoyed golf.

He is survived by his daughter, Tamara J. Matthews of Ionia; brothers Paul and 
Marilyn Matthews of Orleans, Steve Matthews of Ionia, and Willie and Teri 
Matthews of Ionia; sisters Marlene and Al Housler of Manistique, and Neola 
Gereau of Gladstone; several nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles and cousins.

He was preceded in death by his brother, David, in 2005; one sister, Lorna 
Guyaitt and her son Jason in 1977.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday at the Lake Funeral Home in 
Ionia, with Pastor Larry Saunders officiating.  Interment Orleans Cemetery.  
Visitation will be held from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. and 7 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. Wednesday 
at the funeral home.  Anyone wishing may make memorial contributions to a trust 
fund being established for Wayne’s daughter Tamara.
