WM. MILLER, FORMER IONIA MAN IS DEAD

William Thomas Miller, 49, chief of the air carrier division of the civil 
aeronautics administration of Washington, D.C. and a former Ionian, died Sunday 
of a heart attack at his home in Arlington, Va. 

funeral services are to be conducted at the Fort Myer chapel with burial in 
Arlington cemetery  near Washington.

Born in Detroit, Miller came to Ionia and Muir when eight years of age. He was 
educated in the Ionia public schools and was a graduate of the Ionia high 
school and the University of Michigan. he served as a navy pilot during the 
first World war.

Miller came to Ionia and Muir when eight years of age being brought here by 
Covert Miller, Muir mail carrier, who saw the eight year-old boy selling 
newspapers on a Detroit street. Without parents the little boy was brought to 
Muir by Miller who adopted the child.

After ending the federal aeronautics administration Miller was known as one of 
the nation's leading oceanic air authorities. He laid out many proposed air 
fields of those instrumental in air fortifications of the island of Guam which 
was captured later by the Japs. He laid out a proposed air route for the late 
Amelia Earhart and more recently had been stationed in the south European 
theater of war operations where he was connected with air field construction.

In Ionia cousins through adoption are Bert Faulkner and Mrs. Foster Kenny; 
Archie Faulkner and Vern Faulkner of Detroit are cousins.
