North Plains Pioneer Is Called by death; Funeral Wednesday

Funeral services were held Wednesday afternoon in North Plains township for 
Mrs. Mary J. Moss, a life-long resident of that community, who passed away at 
the old homestead early Sunday morning.  The obsequies were held at the Union 
church of North plains and interment was made in the North Plains cemetery by 
the side of her husband and son, who preceded her to the world invisible 
several years ago.

The deceased was a pioneer of North Plains township and passed away at the home 
in which she first saw the light of day over 80 years ago.  She was the 
daughter of Major and Mrs. D. Mills and was the last surviving member of the 
family of 10 children.  It is said that the farm on which she grew to womanhood 
was secured direct by Major Mills from the government and the family still have 
the original deed signed by President Martin Van Buren.

Mrs. Moss was the mother of two sons, George and Charles Moss, the latter dying 
in 1916.  Mr. Moss passed away July 7, 1918, while they were living in the 
village of Muir.  The surviving son, George, lives on the old homestead where 
her death took place.
