Nelson, 79, formerly of Bates road, rural Ionia, died Sunday afternoon at Ionia Manor where she had been a patient 9½ years. Born in Sweden, May 19, 1892, she was the daughter of Olaf and Margaret Bradine Olson. Her father was a Lutheran minister in Sweden. He died when she was a child after which she and her mother and three brothers and one sister came to the United States. Living at Cadillac she attended and graduated form high school there. In 1910 she was married to Emil Nelson in the Evangelical church of Ionia and lived most of her life on the Bates road farm. Her husband died in 1941. In the 1950’s she worked at clerk at the Decorating Center in Ionia. She was past president of Queen Esther chapter of OES, past high worthy priestess of Ionic Shrine and also life member and past president of Business and Professional Women’s club. She was also a member of LeValley United Methodist church. Surviving are a son, Marvin Nelson of Ionia and daughter, Mrs. George Rawson of Palo Alto, Calif., and several grandchildren; sister, Mrs. Hilma Nelson of Birmingham. Funeral services will be Wednesday at 2 p.m. at Leddick funeral home. Rev. Charles Fullmer will officiate and interment will be at Balcom cemetery.
