           NORTON

Bernard T. Norton,Jr., affectionately known as Bernie, passed away in his 
hometown of Lakeview on July 14, 2023.

Born in Lakeview to the late Bernard St. and Alberta (Smith) Norton.

Surviving Bernie is his beloved wife, Sherri Norton of Newaygo; daughters, 
Angela Norton of Cedar Springs, Autumn Gibbard of Mt.Pleasant, and April 
(Nicholas) Osborn of Mt.Pleasant; sons, Michael  Norton of Morley, Tom (Kate) 
Norton of Port Hope, Josh (Casey) Witter of Grand Ledge,Nate Witter of St.Johns, 
and Dwight (Trisha) Perkin of Sand Lake. Bernie is also survived by 17 
grandchildren; his sisters, Dixie Sykes of Grand Rapids and Laura Bradford of 
St.Louis; many nieces and nephews; his beloved dogs, Buddie, Daisy and Pepper; 
and his cat,Boo.

In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his brother-in-law,Dan 
Bradford, and his lifelong friend, Pat "Ralphie" Derosha.

Bernie was a dedicated employee at the Meijer Distribution Center for 41 years, 
retiring in 2013. His work ethic and commitment to his job were admired by his 
colleagues and friends.The strong relationships he built during his career often 
extended beyond the workplace, with many of his co-workers becoming his hunting 
companions.

Family was Bernie's number one priority in life. He was a Vietnam Veteran whose 
experience shaped his understanding and appreciation of the importance of family 
and unity.Bernie's love for his family was evident in the time he spent with 
the, often cooking and grilling for family gatherings.His love for food was 
infectious, and his culinary skills and famous Mac & Cheese will be fondly 
remembered by his all. Bernie's hugs were legendary, a warm embrace that 
comforts and reassured.

Bernie had a passion for the outdoors, which was evident in his love for deer 
hunting, fishing and bird hunting. He often spent his free time making food 
plots and training his bird dogs, hobbies that brought him immense joy and 
satisfaction.His love for nature was not just a pastime but a way of life that 
he shared with his family and friends.

Bernie's legacy is one of love, devotion, and service. His selfless nature and 
friendly demeanor endeared him to all who knew him.His love for his family, 
friends and animals was immeasurable, and his dedication to his work was 
commendable.Bernie's life was a testament to the power of love, the strength of 
family and the joy of friendship.

A Celebration of Bernie's Life is being planned for a later date.
