The Ionia Daily Sentinel, Wednesday, June 7, 1905


The remains of Fireman Joyce Roscoe Payne were taken to his home at 314 E. 
Front St. at 4 in the afternoon.  He was aged 25 years and was a comparatively 
recent comer to Ionia.  He had a large and deep fracture of the skull, and was 
severely impressed about the chest.  He died from the wounds received.  He 
leaves a wife but no children.

The mother and a brother arrived today from Fennville, driving from Lake Odessa 
and ferrying across river.  Interment in Oak Hill, Thursday at 10 a.m., Rev. W. 
K. Spencer, D.D., officiating.
