Excerpts from Ionia Obituary

EARL CLAYTON PETERSON Jr.

Died July 7, 2026-age 75.
The first born of Earl & Beverly Peterson.
The nickname "Punk". is short for Pumpkin.
His early years were exploring around in the woods & hills around Hillcrest 
Drive east of Ionia with his friends.
At age 9 his family moved to a farm in EastonTownship, out in the middle of 
nowhere, where Punk took care of all kinds of animals; rabbits, horses, cattle 
and pigs.
He was active in 4-H & played little league baseball, and played various 
positions on the football team.
He graduated from Ionia High School with class of 1970.
He married his high school sweetheart & they moved to Atlanta, Georgia.
George was a distributor for a major cookie brand. 
Was divorced & moved back to Michigan in the mid 70's.
He would up in Detroit managing several manufacturing plants over two decades.
He attended Davenport Business College in Detroit while working, completing his 
bachelor's degree in 1985.
Upon retirement from manufacturing he relocated back to Ionia/Belding area., 
working at a warehouse operation & later went to work for Menards in the lumber 
yard.
He decided to quit working about 3 years ago & just enjoy life.
He adopted a dog, Odie, picked up pickle ball & joined a Jeep club.
He played golf with his best friend, followed the Tigers & Lions.
Punk was a pretty good carpenter & mechanic & glad to hand to anyone that needed 
it.
He traveled around North America to experience odd & interesting places such as 
Carlsbad Caverns & Jamaica, wherever it was warm to play golf.
Punk worked hard a creating a beautiful landscape of flowers, trees & scrubs at 
his home & enjoyed hosting family gatherings.
Preceded in death by his parents.
Survived by two brothers,Gary (Donna) Peterson of Norton Shores & Tim (Kamela) 
Peterson of Sturgis, two nephews, two nieces & a grand nephew.
 A Memorial will be held Saturday, July 18, 2026 at Lake Funeral Home in Ionia 
at 12:00PM with Pastor Mark Hall officiating.
