Ionia Sentinel, 7 Feb 1873, page 1

John Pickford, Esq., a former resident of Ionia, died in Detroit last Friday
morning.  He had been seriously ill at his home in Lansing for several weeks,
but had so far recovered as to pay a visit to his relatives in Detroit, where a
relapse terminated in his death.  Mr. Pickford was a well-known and esteemed
citizen of Ionia for several years, having held the position of station agent at
this place of both the D. & M. and D., L. & L. M. railroads.  He was
subsequently in the employ of different companies at Grand Haven, Saginaw,
Holly, and recently at Lansing, where he had charge of both the upper and lower
town stations.  He was one of the most efficient and capable officers on the
road.  His remains were brought to Ionia for interment, and the funeral occurred
on Sunday afternoon.  The services were held at the Presbyterian Church, Rev.
B.A. Brown, of St. John’s Church, of which the deceased was an active and
influential member, preaching the discourse.  All the Masonic bodies and the
lodge of Odd Fellows participated in the exercises, Mr. P. being a member of
both organizations.

buried in Oak Hill Cemetery.]
