The Belding Banner, Thursday, September 10, 1908
Murray Lester Pike, who died Saturday: until a couple of months ago made his 
home in Ionia.  He was an old soldier of the 21st Infantry and belonged to the 
Ionia Post.  He had been as well as usual but Saturday while talking 
pleasantly with the family he passed away suddenly in his chair.  The remains 
were taken by undertakers Miller & Harris to Ionia for burial, Rev. Coggshall 
preaching the service in the M. E. church.

Murray Lester Pike was born Feb. 22, 1836, Blenhem township, county of Brant, 
Ontario, and died at the home of his daughter, Mrs. J. W. McIntosh, Belding, 
Sept. 5, 1908, aged 92 years, 6 mo. and 14 days.  At the age of 20 he came to 
Michigan and settled in Keene.  He was married Oct. 25, 1859 to Mary J. 
Shively of Ionia.  Three children were born to them, one son and two 
daughters.  One daughter, Mrs. McIntosh and three grandsons of Belding and one 
brother of Hobart, Mich., survive him.
