Belding Banner News - September 10, 1953

     Mrs. Bertha Punches Well Known Here Passes in Florida

Friends of Mrs.Bertha Punches of Bradenton, Florida, were deeply grieved when 
the news of her death on Friday was received in this city. She underwent major 
surgery at Bradenton General Hospital for removal of the gall bladder July 17th 
and after ten days was removed to her home but soon after it was necessary for 
her to be returned to the hospital. She steadily grew worse until the end came.

Bertha Punches, the daughter of Newell and Mary Reaick was born in this city 
October 30, 1889, and she married Hearl Punches June 7th, 1915. they lived int 
his city until 1947, when after two winter in Florida they moved to Bradenton. 
During her life in this city, she was active socially and was always willing to 
give herself for the good of the community and the youth of the city.

She organized the Blue Star Mothers and was its first president. After the 
organization of the Belding PTA she succeeded its organizer as president.She 
promoted the Belding Youth Center and continued as it head until it was taken 
over by Mrs.Frank Donovan.

The remains were brought to this city on Monday where they lay in state at 
Fitzjohn Funeral Home until the hour of the funeral at 2 o'clock on Tuesday, 
when Rev. Lester Clough officiated at the service.Pall bearers were A.M.Hall, 
Cecil Haight, Byron Cook, Glen Wortley, Easton Bates and I.E.Colvin.

Survivors include her husband, Hearl Punches of Bradenton, Florida, one 
daughter, Mrs.William Afmann of Grand Rapids and one son Edward of this city and 
two grandchildren.

When Mrs.Punches was taken ill both her son and daughter left to be with her and 
Mrs.Afmann remained throughout her illness.
