Rice, 64, of RFD 1, Ionia, died suddenly Friday afternoon, September 27, following a heart attack suffered in McNamara’s drugstore in Ionia. He was pronounced dead on arrival at the Ionia County Memorial Hospital. Mr. Rice was born March 22, 1893, in Indiana and moved to Grand Rapids in 1918. He was engaged in the wholesale lumber and veneer business until 1941. At that time he retired from the lumber business and purchased the extensive Emory Townsend Farms in Ionia township. He has operated the farm since that time. Mr. Rice was a member of several fraternal organizations. Surviving are his wife, Jule, one daughter, Mrs. H.B. Corwin of Morristown, N.J.; two sons, Clarence Jr., of Lansing and Stephen of Ionia; six grandchildren. Funeral services were held Monday, September 30, at the Shaw-Rivett Funeral Home, with the Rev. Fr. Roger Bunday, pastor of St. Johns Episcopal Church of Ionia, officiating. Interment was in Oakwood Cemetery, Muir.
