July 15, 2026 Excerpts from Greenville Obituary GAYLA MARIE RICHES Died July 12, 2026-age 70 of Belding. BornJanuary 5, 1956, in Edmore, daughter of Robert George & Hazel Leota (Boyer) Jensen. She attended Montabella High School & graduated with the Class of 1974. She earned her LPN Nursing degree & worked for many local hospitals over the years. Gayla was the 1st one of her family to earn a college degree, which she was proud of. She married David Riches on March 15, 1975 & were married for 51 years. Gayla was active in her community & volunteered at many places. She loved to work for the B Foundation., was president of the BHS Athletic Boosters, & volunteered for the Ionia Chapter of the Red Cross. She worked over 20 years for the Belding Area Schools in the food service department. She enjoyed crocheting & spending time with those close to her. Survived by her husband, David, their sons; Derrick (Kalani) Riches, David (Kristy) Riches, her grandchildren; Dillon, Dalton, Danielle, Drew, Lexi, Kody, Kaylee, great-grandchildren; Dallas Jo, Theo, Kelce, her siblings;Diane Haglund, Sonny (Chris) Jensen, Rich (Connie) Jensen, also many extended family members, nieces, nephews & friends. Family would like to thank special friends, Steve and Sally Gardner & Karen Weeks for their friendship over the years. Preceded in death by her parents and her sister, Sheila Lapata. Celebration of Life will be held on Friday, July 17th at Johnson Feuerstein Funeral Home. A brief service will begin at 1 pm & the family will greet friends & family afterwards until 3 pm. A luncheon will follow at the Belding Masonic Lodge #355 at 211 e. Main St., Belding from 3pm-5pm. Memorial contributions may be given to the B Foundatin or the charity of your choice.
