Catherine Alyea was born in Orange County, New Jersey, Feb. 22nd, 1801. At the age of twenty-seven she was united in marriage to John Riker and with him came to Michigan in 1841, settling on the farm where they have continued to reside until God called them home. The companion of deceased preceded her seven years. When young she gave her heart to God, and with her companion united with the Congregational church. She has continued to be a faithful and devoted Christian, always striving to do her duty in all the walks of life. She died, as she had lived, having a hope within that was “Big with immortality and reaching into that with the veil”. The funeral was held at the house. The writer preached from the text 1 Cor. 15-55. The remains were taken to the Otisco cemetery for interment. N.E.
