Mrs. Anna D. Sawyer, 89, died Sunday afternoon in Ionia Convalescent home from 
infirmities of advanced age; having been in critical condition the past several 
weeks.

She was born in Ronald township April 6, 1855, a daughter of Mr. and Mrs. 
Erastus Brown, Woodard lake pioneers. At the age of seven the family moved to 
Sheridan, where the father operated a shingle mill. Later they moved to 
Farwell, Clare County, where she married the late J.C. Sawyer, an instructor 
and store operator. A son born to this union died several years ago.

The latter part of her lifetime was spent in Ionia county. For a time she 
resided at the Long lake residence of Arthur Cornell. She was a member of the 
Church of Christ here and affiliated with the Mrs. T.B. Preston Sunday school 
class and the Ladies' Aid society.

Funeral services will be held Tuesday afternoon

Funeral service for Mrs. Anna D. Sawyer, 89, was held from Stone Funeral Home, 
Tuesday afternoon with burial at Woodard lake cemetery. Rev. C.A. Brady 
officiated at the funeral service and pall bearers were Arthur Cornell, Alex 
Marchbank, Murl Teaker, and Russell Hoople.

Mrs. Sawyer was born in Ronald township, near Woodard Lake April 6, 1855. The 
family moved to Sheridan when she was quite young and later to Farwell, where 
she was married to J.C. Sawyer, superintendent of schools. Later they operated 
a store at Farwell and after Mr. Sawyer's death, Mrs. Sawyer returned to Ionia 
county and lied in the Arthur Cornell home hear Long lake, until she became 
seriously ill several weeks. ago.
