Shafer, 65, of route 1 died Sunday evening at the Ionia County Memorial hospital where he was admitted Saturday afternoon. Mr. Shafer was born in Crawford county, Indiana, October 22, 1890, the son of Clarence and Mary Shafer. In 1911 he was married to Bertha Hall at Mt. Carmel, Ind., and in 1913 they moved to Ionia where they have since resided. He was a flour packer at Hale's Mill and at Runciman Milling Co. He was a member and deacon of the First Christian church, belonged to the Berean Brotherhood class and a member of the Men's Fellowship group. Besides his wife, Bertha, he is survived by two sons, Clare, of Ionia, and Willis at home and three grandchildren. Funeral services will be held Wednesday afternoon at the Stone-Kauffman funeral home at 2:30. The Rev. Heath T. Goodwin will officiate. Temporary interment will be at Highland Park Mausoleum.
