Gary Lee Shields, 55 of Hamilton, Ala., formerly of Ionia, passed away May 27, 
2011 in Hamilton, Ala. He was born April 6, 1956 in Ionia, the son of Donald N. 
and Mary L (Welsh) Shields Sr. He married Cindy Misner April 3, 1993 in Lake 
Odessa. Gary was a Corporal in the Marines. He was a big fan of the History 
Channel and loved NASCAR. He was a great mechanic, hard worker and problem 
solver.

Gary is survived by his loving wife, Cindy Shields of Hamilton, Ala.; children, 
Christie Jo Shields of Winfield, Ala., Brandon (Tara) Shields of Hamilton, 
Ala., and Chelsea Shields of Hamilton, Ala.; daughter-in-law Bettina Shields of 
Germany; brothers, Donald (Jean) Shields Jr. of Saranac and James Shields of 
Ionia; sister Kathy Gleason of Ionia; and grandchildren, Julia, Alina, Garrett, 
Hannah, Scarlett and Mason.

He was preceded in death by his parents; son, Garry Lee Shields; brother Rick 
Shields; and his grandparents.

Funeral Services will be held 11 a.m. Wednesday at the Lake Funeral Home in 
Ionia with Pastor John Prominski officiating. Interment Balcom Cemetery. 
Visitation will be 4 to 7 p.m. Tuesday at the Funeral Home.
