June 21, 1999 Mr. Ford C. Shoen, 82, of Lyons, passed away Sunday, June 20, 1999, at Spectrum East in Grand Rapids. Ford Carl Shoen was born Nov. 3, 1916, in Lake Odessa, the son of Clifford and Mary (Yeager) Shoen. He attended Sunfield, Lake Odessa and Portland area schools. Mr. Shoen served in the U.S. Army during World War II. He married Louise Hopkins in Ionia in 1940, and she preceded him in death in 1986. Mr. Shoen was a guard attendant and corrections officer for the Ionia corrections system for 36 years. He was a member of the Lyons F.F.W. He loved animals and loved helping out his friends and neighbors with his tractor. Mr. Shoen is survived by one brother, Don Shoen of Lyons; two sisters, Mary (Leonard) Orvis of Clare and Helen Scott of Farwell; numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; wife; one brother, Clifton Shoen; three sisters, Dorie Siel, Hazel Huntley and Gladys Longelier. Funeral services for Mr. Shoen will be Wednesday at 2 p.m. at the Cook Funeral Home, Rich Street Chapel, Ionia, with the Rev. Rodger Moore officiating. Interment will be in Balcom Cemetery. Visiting hours are Tuesday, 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. and 7 p.m. to 8”30 p.m., at the Cook Funeral Home, Rich Street Chapel.
